I love your image going along with your haiku. Stronger than it was before it was broken…
    So true…

    Elegant pottery

Thank you. I want this pottery so bad now. It is a physical representation of what is beautiful to me in a person. The breaks make the person more beautiful and give them character.

      • Yes. I understand. If you want it enough perhaps it will come to pass that you will have it – or something similar.

And as for character – I pretend the same thing about the lines upon my face.

      • janineyork says:

It is the beauty within that truly matters. Lines are inevitable on the outside if one lives. What lies beneath is where love is found. Youth and outer beauty are just a passing phase- a gift, character and inner beauty are forever within and are earned. I will take inner beauty every time, no matter the lines that encase it.

      • I believe that women are generally better than men at seeing a person holistically – the intelligence, the humour, the warmth within. Men are more superficial.
And yet without a bright intelligence, a good heart, and an open soul (and actually a submissive ache), the most beautiful women has no power to attract (me).
You are fortunate – you are young, and a beauty – without and within.

      • janineyork says:

Yes, I have found that men are unfortunate creatures usually led by their visual tastes. You are very cerebral, therefore I would imagine it would take much more than common aesthetics to entrance you. I am not so young anymore, in my 40’s. I am really learning a lot about how important youth and beauty are to most men. Even though I am so much more inside than I was in my 20’s, I find that men used to pay way more attention to the empty ramblings of a 20 year old. I will not give up hope that I will find someone who can appreciate what is inside and realize that there is only one me, inside and out. If not I will remain alone with my wonderful furry friends and enjoy life just the same. Friendship, laughter, trust, deep soul searching conversations, these are the things you grow old appreciating, not looks, in my world anyway. (I am always open when it comes to aches, but those are personal.)

      • I will be honest and say that desire for beauty is such that the visual is important to me. Yet, the intellect, wit, and a character forged from experience are equally so. It is a very rare twenty year old – or indeed any woman – that can satisfy both. I have no right to set the bar high but I do.
You are right. If we cannot be appreciated for who are truly are, then we would be better alone.
For what it is worth – I would have put you at early thirties.

Beauty is subjective, and I am glad of that. I find that the older I get the more I realize that I want someone to laugh with, cry with, discuss philosophy, art and politics with, someone to learn from, those are the things that really turn me on. Oh and then there is poetry, I am a sucker for someone who makes art of words.
Thank you for the very kind compliment. You always brighten my day when you stop by. Or you brighten my day when I stop by your blog and read your breathtaking poetry. Either way, you do my heart good.

      • Oh, to seduce you with words.

Oh, and I will find this. I am on the search. I love frequenting consignment shops. I have a new treasure to look for.

Such a powerful poem! moving on so many levels. I know a man who does pottery demonstrations and equates the scaring of the pottery to the hard things we have walked through, and how the make us beautiful, and in fact are what draw others to us, once we are healed. Such a good place to be – though not a pleasant path.

    Thank you!

    • janineyork says:

Oh my, thank you so much. I love the fact that the scars and broken pieces are what make us unique. It is true, they are what draw others to us- to see our strength and beauty in that healing. It always adds depth of character. Thank you for your kind words.
